Waverly residents sweep KVOE Beat the Bracket top slots

They say they don't win contests very often, but Bill and Ola Mae Redding of Waverly were all smiles after finishing second and third in KVOE's Beat the Bracket contest.

The Reddings finished just one point apart to claim a $300 and $100 gift card from Emporia State Federal Credit Union on Friday, with Bill Redding finishing ahead of his wife. Ola Mae Redding was surprised they did as well as they did given all the upsets during this NCAA tournament.

Susie LeGault of the credit union was also impressed.

Contestants had a short window, from St. Patrick's Day to March 20, to set their NCAA tournament brackets last month and return them to the sponsor locations from where they picked up the sheets: the credit union, Bruffs Sports Bar and Grill, Gambino's Pizza, Ozzy's Get-N-Go Liquor and Sutherlands. They could also either call or email buzzwords to improve their point total.

Waverly's Jamie Dreiling won the contest, taking home a Traeger grill from Sutherlands and $750 in lawn care from Scott's Lawn and Landscape on Thursday.
