Plaque dedicated for EHS bell

A nostalgic moment took place in front of Emporia High School on Tuesday.

Members of the Class of 1962 stopped by to dedicate a plaque commemorating the high school's time at the one-time Lowther North building.

Class spokesman Roger Hartsook says their class president Richard James helped to direct how the project developed after the bell was moved a year ago. The project was an offshoot of the class's 50th reunion in 2012.

The school district agreed to give the money needed so the plaque project could proceed. Current assistant principal Steve Turner helped to design the plaque.

The plaque is on the west side of the bell.

Emporia High was at Lowther North from 1914 to 1974. The class of 1962 had nearly 200 members.
