Strong storms dump heavy rain, large hail south of Emporia

Some area residents got a good soaking from heavy thunderstorms Wednesday night. Others didn't see a drop.

Storms fired southeast of Emporia first, then trained from Butler County into southeast Coffey County. In between, Greenwood County caught several rounds of heavy rain, with radar estimates of two inches in some spots. Parts of Greenwood County were under a flood warning for several hours.

Large hail was reported in several places, with quarter-sized hail reported near Climax, Toronto and LeRoy.

A severe thunderstorm watch remains in effect for Lyon and most surrounding counties until 5 am.

Thunderstorms are possible Thursday afternoon, although the chances aren't as great and the severe weather risk is off to our southeast. More storms are possible early next week.
