On Thursday night, residents interested in a dredging project at John Redmond Reservoir are encouraged to attend an update meeting at the Hartford Community Building.
Siltation has been a problem for decades, with the state offering its first reallocation request back in 1996. U.S. Army Corps of Engineers spokesman Gary Simmons says the dredging project will take out a lot of silt that has been deposited over the years.
The Kansas Water Office announced plans last year to dredge the lake and add 17,000 acre-feet of water storage for recreation and industry use. Active dredging could begin late next year.
The meeting starts at 7 pm. For more information, call Corps of Engineers Kansas Area Manager Eugene Goff at 620-364-8613.
