The search for a permanent Convention and Visitors Bureau director is coming closer to an end. Chamber of Commerce President and CEO Jeanine McKenna says three finalists are being interviewed Monday afternoon, and the selection committee will review the applications and candidates.
McKenna said more information on the candidates and qualifications will be available later this week. Current Interim CVB Director Susan Rathke has been in that position since fall of 2012, having replaced Betty James.
This comes during a research period for the CVB. Earlier in the month, the Convention and Visitors Advisory Board met with Proof, Inc., an Overland Park-based consulting firm, in order to determine Emporia's tourism base and marketing strategies. The primary research phase is underway, and a two-day retreat is planned later this spring to sift through the data.
