Calm and pleasant conditions Saturday have given way to windy and warm conditions the next two days.
Temperatures will push into the mid- and upper 70s Sunday, buoyed by south winds as high as 45 mph.
Red flag warnings are now posted for Lyon and most surrounding counties until 7 pm for warm temperatures, low humidity levels and critically dry vegetation. Chase and Greenwood counties are affected until 9 pm Sunday. Wind advisories blanket the area as well, with all area counties affected until 7 pm.
Temperatures will also be in the 70s on Monday with winds as high as 35 mph.
This will only serve to keep the area extremely dry despite a chance of showers and storms Sunday night, and the fire danger will once again be very high to extreme across Lyon and surrounding counties. Outdoor burning will be strongly discouraged Sunday and Monday before burn restrictions begin Tuesday as part of the Flint Hills Smoke Management Plan. Residents of Lyon, Chase, Greenwood and other Flint Hills counties can burn pasture and rangeland. They can also have legal trash burns, cookouts and fires for ceremonial purposes, but all other burning activities are prohibited for April.
