Repairs continue at 12th and Commercial after a utility problem developed at the intersection Thursday.
During Thursday's noon hour, it was discovered a pole had rotted at the base -- this coming after some sparking was evident in winds over 40 mph in town. The sustained high winds from Wednesday and Thursday made the pole and the connected phone lines unstable.
Westar Energy used a boom truck to help hold the old pole in place during initial repairs. A second pole has been installed, but the boom truck is still in place.
Traffic is moving smoothly around the work site after authorities told drivers to avoid the intersection during the lunchtime drive Thursday.
