A Level 1 lockdown was issued for Timmerman Elementary Monday as a precautionary measure.
The lockdown came at around 2pm, according to USD 253 spokeswoman Nancy Horst. Earlier in the afternoon, Emporia Police alerted the school of a suspicious man going door-to-door asking for money. This man was found to have been robbed, and missed his bus. Police could not locate the man.
Horst said Timmerman went into a Level 1 lockdown, the "least confining of the lockdowns." During this kind of lockdown, only the main entrance and exterior doors are locked. Horst said the suspicious man never had any contact with the school, and students were never in any danger. Students were released for the day at their normal time.
