EDP Renewables continues preliminary work on Waverly wind development

Engineering work continues as EDP Renewables lays the groundwork for a significant wind energy development near Waverly.

Central Region Development spokesman Rorik Peterson says the engineering work is dealing with several early stages of the project.

Peterson says actual construction may begin in a few months, but the main construction activity should begin early next year. The wind energy development should be completed by early 2016. As many as 350 people will be in the area during the construction phase.

EDP Renewables, Kansas City Power & Light and the Sierra Club announced the 21,000-acre wind farm two months ago. EDP is building the plant and also producing the power for KCP&L. It should generate 200 megawatts of electricity once it's online.
