C.A.R.E. nominations due soon

The nomination deadline is closing in if you want to honor a person or business for their recycling efforts.

The Natural Resources Advisory Board is accepting nominations for its annual Community Area Recycling Excellence, or C.A.R.E., awards through Tuesday.

On KVOE's Morning Show on Monday, organizer Amy Becker said the recycling amounts aren't as important as the effort itself.

Becker says more and more people are either recycling locally or showing interest, and she says people don't have to start big to change their habits. A lot of people start with one item, like paper, and gradually move to recycling plastics, cardboard and other things.

Nominations are available at the city's website, www.emporia-kansas.gov, or at the Public Works office at 1220 Hatcher. You can also call Public Works at 340-6339 for information.
