Emporia firefighters were called out to two grass fires Tuesday.
Firefighters went to Roads 290 and "H-2" for a grass fire after it was initially reported the fire was closing in on a house. Battalion Chief Rich Gould says the fire was actually well away from any structures. The fire did burn about 10 acres before it was put out.
Fire crews also went to 1836 East U.S. Highway 50 on at least two occasions after an unidentified individual was conducting a planned burn. The fire wasn't moving as expected but didn't get into unwanted areas, so instead of attacking the main blaze fire crews put out fire in a right-of-way area along Interstate 35 and remained briefly on standby.
Fire danger will again be extremely high Wednesday, with low humidity levels and wind gusts as high as 30 mph. Stay updated on KVOE and KVOE.com. Get instant weather alerts on Twitter and Facebook.
