St. Baldrick's auctions start active weekend for charity

The attendance was modest but the party was lively at the Bowyer Community Building on Friday for the St. Baldrick's silent and live auction.

The auction benefits research into pediatric cancers. Organizer Travis Hitt says people in Emporia always seem to contribute to fundraisers and charitable events like this.

Several local businesses and individuals donated items for the auctions, or for dinner. About $2,000 was raised.

This comes in advance of the big city-wide St. Patrick's Day celebration Saturday. KVOE's Chuck Samples and Scott Hayes have been raising money for St. Baldrick's the past two months, and they will both be getting their heads shaved, just not at the same time. Hayes is getting shorn during Blackout Fighting Championships' BFC 20 event Saturday at the Fairgrounds Anderson Building on Saturday, while Samples will be clipped during KVOE's Morning Show at 8:40 am Monday.

Check KVOE and KVOE.com Saturday for more coverage of St. Patrick's Day events.
