The Regional Development Association met Friday, discussing some housekeeping items, including the status of the potential development at 24th and Industrial.
In months prior, the RDA formed a committee to work with the Emporia Pavilions developers on their application for tax-increment financing, or TIF. RDA President Kent Heerman said the RDA and the developers want to be very thorough in this process.
The TIF Committee will put together a final report to present to the city commission at their next meeting March 19. City commissioners will vote on the recommendation from the Planning Commission to deny the zoning change request, and to modify the future land use map. The project needs a 4-1 vote by commissioners to proceed.
The RDA also looked at their 2013 financial review, courtesy Wright CPA Group. The RDA's total assets for 2013 came up just shy of $119,000. Total expenses for last year were $284,000.
The RDA will also be gathering ideas for target marketing, in order to make Emporia more attractive for potential businesses.
