The mountain lion naming contest is about halfway done at the David Traylor Zoo.

So far, two names have risen to the top, according to zoo director Lisa Keith during KVOE's 8:05 am newscast Friday.

Area residents can vote for their favorite through March 31 by dropping off financial donations at the mountain lion exhibit or the Zoo Education Center. They can also mail financial donations to the Emporia Friends of the Zoo at Box 345 in Emporia. The name receiving the most donations will be the cub's name April 1.

The naming contest has raised some $600. Keith says the money will be used to offset operating costs for the mountain lion exhibit.
