Emporia High should have a seamless transition to the principal's chair come July 1.
Current principal Scott Sheldon, who announced his retirement earlier this year, will be replaced by associate principal Dr. Britton Hart. The Emporia School Board made the hire during its meeting Wednesday night.
On KVOE's Morning Show on Thursday, Hart said the school's main focus is to prepare students for higher education or the work world.
Hart credited Sheldon, fellow assistant principal Steve Turner -- who is also retiring -- and staffers for providing high-quality learning opportunities to students. He says the controversial switch to Common Core standards has benefited students.
Hart is in his 14th year in education, with seven as associate principal. Hart served as athletic director for several years, giving up those duties last year as he finished his doctorate studies.
