Friday wreck at Emporia's KTA toll gate injures two people

Two Illinois residents were hurt in a crash at Emporia's Kansas Turnpike toll gate Friday.

The Turnpike Authority says a van driven by 50-year-old Jan Campbell was stopped to pay a toll when it was rear-ended by a car driven by 81-year-old Burnell Adams of Inver Grove Heights, Minn., just before 2:30 pm.

Adams was not hurt, but 49-year-old Aldona Czczawinska, a passenger in Campbell's van, was transported to Newman Regional Health for observation and possible treatment. Campbell was listed as injured, but Emporia firefighters say they did not take him to a hospital.

Newman Regional Health does not release patient conditions to the media.

Both vehicles were traveling northbound at the time of the crash.
