The Flint Hills chapter of the Rocky Mountain Elk Foundation raised about $19,000 for habitat with its annual auction Saturday at the Best Western.
Club spokesman Steve Ewing says securing habitat is a big deal for the foundation, but also for the animals.
Ewing says that process also helps other animals like deer, reptiles and insects.
In years past, the auction has raised as much as $30,000. Ewing said numbers were down a little bit this year, but he thanks those who did show for their generosity.
