Riley stepping down as Senior Center director

The Emporia Senior Center is now searching for a new director.

Current director Susan Riley tendered her resignation Thursday, effectively ending a dozen years at the helm.

Riley has agreed to take nursing home administrator post at AmeriCare in Eureka, following her obtaining a national AIT certificate last fall. She tells KVOE News she began considering other positions last year with the center unable to offer full health insurance coverage or a 401(k) plan.

Riley had served as a systems analyst for Yellow Worldwide before moving back to Emporia to help care for her mother and take the Senior Center job.

Riley time at the Senior Center was marked by facility upgrades and an increase of services to elderly residents and use by outside groups. It also had admittedly declining donations over the past year while county funding had stayed flat for several years.

Riley says she plans to volunteer at the Senior Center to help with Tuesday bingo and fundraisers.
