St. Patrick's Committee fundraisers benefiting nine groups, scholarship at ESU

The St. Patrick's Committee has announced its beneficiaries with its two major fundraising events yet to come.

Nine charitable groups will benefit along with the committee's scholarship fund through Emporia State University. Spokesperson Barb Ternes says there was a big field of applicants to choose from, each with worthy projects.

The committee is preparing for its annual auction Feb. 28 at Bruffs Sports Bar and Grill. Auction items are currently being sought. The annual parade is March 15 in downtown Emporia.

Last year, the committee distributed over $16,000 to seven groups as well as its scholarship fund set up at Emporia State University. Overall, the committee has now handed out over $160,000 to 35 groups since it began nearly 20 years ago.
