Pageantry, food highlight weekend schedule

Several activities are coming to the KVOE listening area this weekend.

The second annual Miss Flint Hills pageant begins at 7 pm Saturday at the Granada Theatre. Organizer Janice Williams says there will be two crowns awarded.

Tickets to watch the pageant are $5. The winner gets to take part in the Miss Kansas pageant this spring.

Also Saturday, Girl Scout Troop No. 30025 is holding a pancake feed benefiting the Emporia Animal Shelter. Girl Scout Noelle Aranda says the shelter needs a lot of things to keep its animals comfortable.

The pancake feed will be at First Congregational from 8 to 11 am. Cost is $4.50 for adults, with meals including pancakes, a sausage link and drink.

On Sunday, the Verdigris Valley Community Foundation is holding a benefit meal, auction and concert for the Sauder Community Building in Madison. Organizer Mary Meyer says the foundation has a longstanding partnership with the community building.

The meal goes from 5 to 7 pm. Chicken and noodles or chili will be on the menu along with cinnamon rolls. A freewill offering will be accepted.

For more information, call Karen Engle at 620-437-2421 or Meyer at 620-437-2303.
