St. Patrick's Committee seeking groups to help

The St. Patrick's Committee is now taking applications for groups and organizations seeking funding for various projects.

Committee spokesperson Barb Ternes joined KVOE's Newsmaker segment Thursday with details. She says the club has typically helped projects impacting area youth.

Applications are due Jan. 28.

Last year, the committee distributed over $16,000 to seven groups as well as its scholarship fund set up at Emporia State University. Overall, the committee has now handed out over $160,000 to 35 groups since it began nearly 20 years ago.

The committee is preparing for its annual auction Feb. 28 at Bruffs Sports Bar and Grill. Auction items are currently being sought. The annual parade is March 15 in downtown Emporia. Ternes says plans are in place to raise money through suggested donations for a large-screen TV and another electronics item, although those plans haven't been finalized yet.

Check KVOE.com for the application form. For more information about the St. Patrick's Committee, call Ternes at 343-0745.
