Tyson voluntarily recalls 'institutional' chicken

Tyson Foods is recalling nearly 34,000 pounds of chicken because of salmonella concerns, but you won't see any of that on your plates at home.

The uncooked, mechanically-separated chicken was sold in 10-pound chubs for "institutional use" only. The product was shipped to distribution centers in eight states, including Kansas, but it was never made available in stores and was not for the general public.

Roughly 850 cases of product were made in mid-October, and there were seven confirmed cases of salmonella early last month. A spokesman says there is a "high likelihood" the product has already been consumed, but Tyson wanted to make sure the product was totally off the market.
