Clean Sweep begins Friday in Emporia

Clean Sweep 3 starts Friday.

Just what can you take to the Lyon County Fairgrounds for disposal? Well, according to Solid Waste Supervisor Keith Senn, just about anything.

"Recycling, hazardous waste, paints and stuff from your garage or basement, trash, construction-demolition, old wood, tree limbs, whatever you want," Senn said on KVOE's Morning Show recently.

Donations are being requested for tires at $1.50 each and televisions for $10 each if you want them recycled. Tires on rims and tractor tires will not be accepted. Drivers of large items or certain full loads, however, will receive a pass to take their items to the Lyon-Chase County Transfer Station for disposal.

Clean Sweep 3 runs 9 am to 7 pm both Friday and Saturday along with 1 to 5 pm Sunday.

Folks needing curbside assistance at their residences can call the Clean Sweep Hotline at 343-4291 to request a pickup. Volunteers are needed, as are trucks and other equipment. You can call the Clean Sweep Hotline to volunteer yourself or your machinery to help the effort.
