Health Care enrollment continues, public meetings coming up

There's still time to enroll in the health insurance marketplace if you haven't done so already. For those folks who enrolled before Jan. 1, their coverage has already taken effect.

Licensed navigators from the Flint Hills Community Health Center - Lyon County Health Department have several public meetings coming up, to help people enroll and answer any questions about the Affordable Care Act.

Health Center - Health Department navigator Valorie Libertus is stationed at Newman Regional Health until 5pm Thursday, and from 8am - noon Friday. She says people are approaching it positively for the most part.

Libertus says there's still some misconceptions abounding, especially about the tax penalty. The penalty tax actually increases with each passing year of not having health insurance. Libertus says she enrolled 36 people in December, seeing 104 people total that month.

The official deadline to enroll is March 31. Navigators will also be holding a public forum on the health care law on Jan. 14 at the Bowyer Community Building, from 3-7pm.
