Minor injuries reported after fiery head-on crash

Two area residents are counting their blessings after a head-on crash near Neosho Rapids early Wednesday morning.

Undersheriff John Koelsch says deputies, Lyon County ambulance staffers and Fire District No. 5 responded to Kansas Highway 130 near Road 160, or roughly a mile north of Neosho Rapids, shortly after 3:45 am. A southbound car driven by 23-year-old Thomas Jones of Cottonwood Falls apparently crossed the center line for unlisted reasons, hitting a pickup driven by 52-year-old Diana Martin of Emporia head-on.

Martin's truck caught fire and was fully engulfed in flames when rescue workers arrived on scene, but both drivers refused trips to hospitals afterward.

Both drivers were wearing their seat belts at the time of the crash.
