Car-deer accidents continue to pose problems

The season for car-deer accidents continues. Since December 1, the Lyon County Sheriff's Department has worked 17 non-injury vehicle-deer crashes. That brings the total for the year up to 160 vehicle-vs-deer wrecks.

Lyon County Undersheriff John Koelsch reminds people to always wear their seatbelt, and be aware of where you are driving, as avoiding an accident with a deer can be more dangerous in some situations than the actual collision with the deer.

Dawn and dusk hours are particularly active times for deer. Koelsch reminds people to pay extra attention to the ditches along the side of the road, especially when driving during those dawn and dusk hours.
