Post-Christmas trash disposal options offered

Pretty soon, all that wrapping paper and all those boxes -- and even the live Christmas tree -- has to go somewhere.

That's why the city of Emporia is again offering residents a chance to get rid of the extra holiday trash. Extra garbage can be placed by Polycarts on Thursday and Friday and again Monday and Tuesday.

Boxes can be taken to the Recycling Center, 3100 West South, and the city is recommending that folks recycle their boxes. Wrapping paper is not recyclable and must be thrown in the trash.

The city also has three drop-off containers for live Christmas trees, with roll-off bins at Dillon's, Country Mart South and the Lyon County Fairgrounds. Those will be available from Thursday through Jan. 3.
