The Emporia Recreation Commission is going to apply for exemption of the state concealed carry law, joining other Emporia municipal buildings in the 4-year exemption.
Commission president Tom McEvoy said the ERC decided to join the rest of Emporia's municipal buildings and apply for the 4-year exemption from the Personal and Family Protection Act. The exemption lasts until 2017.
This move comes after the Emporia city commission was granted their 4-year exemption, in order to reevaluate their security policies. It was recommended by city attorney Blaise Plummer to apply for exemption earlier in the month.
