Mulready's prepares for "Barhunters" watch party

A watch party is coming Dec. 18 for the latest Emporia business to gain national acclaim.

Mulready's Pub was featured on the Discovery Channel show "Barhunters" over the weekend. Owner Rick Becker says the business' appearance on the show almost didn't happen.

The show brings expert Tom Powers to a given town with hopes of finding a specific location for a bar. Becker says none of the options turned out to be a better fit than their current location.

Becker says the crew filmed 50 hours of tape for the show, and several shots of Emporia made the episode.

The watch party will be held at 9:30 am at Mulready's. The establishment joins Mr. Sister Sweets, which competed in the Food Channel show "Cupcake Wars" this summer, and Bobby D's Merchant Street BBQ, which was featured on the Discovery show "BBQ Pitmasters" this past spring. Lebo resident Cammy Onek was also highlighted on the History Channel show "American Pickers" last week after the show descended on Lebo over the summer.
