Kettle campaign off to slow start

The Emporia Salvation Army is asking residents to help with its annual bell-ringing campaign.

Lt. Lynn Lopez says about $10,000 is in the bank. Goal is $42,000 by Christmas Eve.

Lopez says the Salvation Army also needs bell ringers to volunteer their time at different locations across town. Lopez says volunteers serve about two hours at a time.

The Salvation Army is in the middle of its Christmas sign-up period with over 200 families already on board. It's also planning for a special toy drop at Walmart on Saturday.

For more information, call Lopez at 344-0788.
