County Commission to discuss regional economic direction

More discussion on Lyon County's potential role in the Flint Hills Economic Development District is coming Wednesday.

County commissioners have been discussing the potential benefits of such a move for several months, having periodic discussions during regular meetings and also during the latest joint session with Emporia city commissioners a few weeks ago.

Economic Development District officials say joining would provide more economic opportunities on a regional scale for the county.

In other business, commissioners are set to discuss a possible purchase of an emergency restraint chair and computers for the Lyon County Jail. County Engineer Chip Woods will present a department policy handbook change for removing vehicles during snow emergencies. Project updates from BG Consultants are also scheduled.

The meeting starts at 8 am Wednesday in the County Courthouse. Because of Thanksgiving, county commissioners have adjusted their meeting schedule to have an action session Wednesday instead of the normal Thursday.
