One person is dead following an overnight crash near Neosho Rapids.

Lyon County Sheriff Jeff Cope says EMS and Hartford first responders were called to the 1300 block of Kansas Highway 130 shortly before 2 a.m. Upon arrival, they found a female unresponsive who was later pronounced dead. That person has been identified as 50-year-old Kimberly Roney of rural Hartford.

Shortly before 4 a.m. Coffey County deputies located a male, identified as 35-year-old Christopher Murphy of Burlington on Interstate 35 who advised he was involved in an injury accident by Neosho Rapids. It was determined he was in the vehicle with Roney at the time of the accident. Murphy was transported by Coffey County EMS to Newman Regional Health for unspecified injuries.

Sheriff Cope says an accident investigation determined the passenger car was eastbound on K-130 when it went into the westbound lane and then into the south ditch for an unknown reason. The vehicle struck a field entrance before coming to rest in the ditch.

The Lyon County Sheriff's Office is continuing to investigate.
