for Controls EngineerTeam Leader at
our Emporia, Kansas dry pet food manufacturing
plant. As a Controls EngineerTeam Leader for
Hill's Pet Nutrition, you will work in a friendly, team-oriented environment
producing the industry's leading premium dry dog and cat food. This is an
exciting opportunity to work at a manufacturing facility with

Principal Duties and
Responsibilities
- Responsible for the design, specification, development,
installation, start up, troubleshooting, and improvement of process
control systems, plant floor systems, business systems, and equipment.
- Use data systems to troubleshoot manufacturing issues, and lead
the development and implementation of process improvements (reliability,
waste, product quality, safety, cost per pound) to meet business needs.
- Prepare, submit, and manage controls technology and information
technology aspects of the Capital Expenditure Budget and support project
managers in achieving project deliverables. This includes the
following: developing electrical design & functional specifications,
managing controls integrators & contractors, managing project scope
& schedule, cost control, start-up and troubleshooting.
- Lead the technology transfer for the plant and support global
technology with implementation of new capital projects and new controls
processes.
- Develop, implement, and maintain hardware and software aspects of
the plant floor systems, plant control systems, business systems (computer
network), and phone and voice systems.
- Prepare and manage Opex budgets for
plant control systems and all information technology systems, (computer
hardware, software, phones, electricity, etc.).
- Develop and maintain specifications, technical documentation,
drawings, and procedures for controls processes and equipment which are
consistent with KPI goals and support Quality and EOHS standards.
- Leadership and management of Controls Technicians and Information
Technology Technician.
- Develop new insights and drive innovative engineering and control
solutions.
Qualifications
Basic qualifications
include:
- BS
in Electrical Engineering or related field
- 3+
years' experience in a food manufacturing facility
- 3+
years' experience working on control systems in a project management /
engineering role
- 3+
years' experience and knowledge in the following:
- Electrical power distribution
- Motor Controls (variable frequency drives, motor
starters, etc.)
- Industrial Automation Networks (DeviceNet, Ethernet)
- Process and machine instrumentation
- Computer Networks Architecture (servers, switches,
network)
- Allen-Bradley ControlLogix
PLC's
- HMI Development experience
- Ability
to travel 10% of time
- Ability
to a schedule supporting a 24/7 operation, which may include nights,
weekends or holidays
- Ability
to be on call during off hours
- Ability
to bend, climb, crawl, work in confined spaces, work in hazardous
condition spaces, work in extreme weather conditions, use hazardous
materials, and lift up to 50 lbs. on a continual basis
- Ability
to work at heights of up to 300 ft
- Ability
to wear all required PPE
- Intermediate
experience with the following computer programs:
- MS
Word/Excel/Access/PowerPoint
- Lotus notes or equivalent
email
- Proficient
in Statistical Process Control, CPk and
Continuous Improvement Methodologies
Preferred qualifications
include:
- 5+
years' experience managing capital projects, budgets, and contractors
- 5+
years' experience Plant systems database management and Thin Client Plant
floor architecture
- Technical
proficiency including:
- Wonderware
Archestra softwar
- SQL
- SAP
