The Granada
Theatre
Entering a new chapter
On Oct. 3,
the Granada Theatre opened to its Theatre Alliance board, major donors and
other invitees. The theater will open to the public Oct. 10-12.
The theater
was dedicated in 1929 at a cost of $350,000, translating to over $4 million in
2008 dollars. It closed in 1982 after years of neglect and faced demolition in
1994. The Theatre Alliance board was formed in the mid-1990s to make sure the
Granada was restored to its original grandeur. Board members spent several
years raising around $3 million for renovations. Demolition and construction
took better than two years.
