Trusler Complex project highlights ESU-Emporia partnerships

A joint project to repair the parking lot at Trusler Sports Complex in northeast Emporia highlights a growing partnership between the city and Emporia State University.

The parking lot is being repaved over the next few days. On the ESU Buzz with President Dr. Michael Shonrock on Thursday, Shonrock said it's important for residents to know about joint projects like the parking lot.

Both Shonrock and Mayor Rob Gilligan said they take the so-called "town and gown" relationship seriously, and Gilligan says the parking lot project is an investment in the community both short-term and long-term.

A campus master plan will see further discussion next week. Shonrock says the goal is to have a seamless look around the campus when all is said and done.

A special open forum on the campus master plan is set for noon Monday at the Memorial Union Preston Room. Shonrock says the master plan will touch on possible realignment of campus streets, future renovations, community partnerships and landscaping among other possible changes.
