Six area basketball teams claimed sub-state championships Saturday advancing to the state championship tournament.
In the 2A sub-state championships
The Olpe Lady Eagles defeated the Jefferson County North Chargers 53-45. Olpe secured the two seed and will face the seventh seeded Spearville Lancers Wednesday at 6:30 p.m. in Manhattan at Bramlage Coliseum.
The Burlingame boys defeated the Lyndon Tigers 52-41. The four seed Bearcats will play five seed Salina Sacred Heart in Manhattan at 8:15 p.m. Thursday.
In 1A division I
Southern Coffey County boys out shot St. Paul 56-49. With the win Southern Coffey County claimed the four seed and will face fifth seeded St. John Hudson Wednesday at Gross Memorial Coliseum in Hays at 4:45 p.m.
The St. Paul Girls defeated Southern Coffey County 57-20. St. Paul, the two seed, is set to face the seven seeded St. John Hudson at 6:30 p.m. Thursday in Hays.
Sub State championship results for 1A division II
The Hartford Girls edged out Waverly 65-61. The three seed Lady Jaguars will now face the sixth seeded Central Christian at United Wireless Arena in Dodge City at 4:45 p.m. Thursday. The girls trip to state is the first for any Hartford girls program, outside of track, in school history. Hartford girls Coach Ryan Thomas, on the KVOE Morning Show Monday, it finaly sank in Sunday that they were going to State and it took alot of hard work to get to this point.
The Waverly Boys defeated Hartford 53-40. The Bulldogs clinched the eight seed and will face the number one seed Almena-Northern Valley at 3 p.m. Wednesday in Dodge city.
All tournaments will begin Wednesday.
