This year’s National Teacher’s Hall of Fame Radio Auction is going back to its roots this year due to the COVID-19 pandemic.
For the past several years the annual auction has aired live from the Emporia State Federal Credit Union’s Industrial Road branch. However, due to virus restrictions and mitigation efforts, this year’s broadcast will air directly from the KVOE studios.
ESFCU General Manager Angie Miller says the move is disappointing but necessary. She adds the Credit Union is still proud to be involved in the auction and says it will be a “blast to the past.”
The change in location will not be the only change occurring when the broadcast airs on Thursday evening. On hand staff will be considerably less, no items will be inside the studio during the broadcast — photos will be provided so bidders can still see each item — and the selection of items will look somewhat different than year’s past.
However, Jennifer Baldwin of the National Teacher’s Hall of Fame says they still have plenty of items that will appeal to all bidders near and far.
National Teacher’s Hall of Fame Director Carol Strickland says despite the changes and the ongoing impacts of the COVID-19 pandemic, she is confident the auction will still receive the same level of support Thursday that it has for the past 29 years. Strickland says despite what may be going on around the world, the auction is always a “feel-good time.”
All proceeds from the auction will go to benefit Hall of Fame induction activities for the 2020 class of inductees to be inducted in June. the radio auction will be broadcast on KVOE 1400 am and 96.9 fm, KVOE-TV at KVOE.com and ValuNet Fiber Channel 3 beginning at 6:05 pm.
