Emporia State University’s sixth annual Nitty Gritty Dirt Dash was held Saturday morning at the Trusler Sports Complex.
ESU Director of Recreation Services Mike Wise talked about the inspiration for the obstacles course.
Wise says involved ESU students have spent most of the year coming up with ideas for obstacles and then building them over the last few weeks. First-time participant and first-place finisher Boone Cady talked about what he thought of the course.
Funds raised from the event will benefit Big Brothers Big Sisters of the Flint Hills, Camp Alexander, and Emporia Child Care. ESU junior and first-time Dirt Dash participant Justin Boylers says he is glad his money will help provide kids opportunities to grow.
Participants ran, crawled, and slid through 15 different mud, water, and slime-covered obstacles to get to the finish line. Fundraising totals will be announced at a later date.
